Direct to Film (DTF) printing is a process where a printer prints digital artwork directly onto a special film. That film is then heat pressed onto a garment. Because the printer works directly from your artwork file, the way you prepare the design matters a lot.
In most cases, DTF printing only needs clean artwork with no background. If your file has a clear design and good resolution, that is often enough. Many printers work this way every day.
However, some DTF machines require a white under base behind the design. This under base helps colours appear stronger, especially on dark garments. Because every machine setup is different, you should always check with your printer or machine representative first.
Once you know your requirements, you can pass that information to us. Our online ordering system allows us to save these settings on your customer account. This means future orders follow the same rules without you needing to explain them again.
It is also important to understand that vector artwork is not always necessary. If you already have a high resolution image, you may not need vectorisation at all. In many cases, we can simply remove the background or add a white under base instead.
To avoid extra costs, please explain your needs clearly in the notes section of the order form. If you only request vector artwork, we will supply vector artwork and charge for that service. Our team cannot guess your final printing method.
